A SOLID FOUNDATION
Ten Building Blocks for Stress-free Socializing
1 - Appreciate
Appreciation for another person in and of itself is a manifestation of education and exposure. Do it genuinely and often.
2 - Confident Handshake
Men and women alike, get a grip!
Ladies, some of you were taught a little differently in decades past, but unless you are royalty, this etiquette has changed.
The handshake is the same for any gender.
3 - Shut Your Mouth
While you are chewing, do not talk.
Wait until you finish chewing to speak.
4 - Respect Time
Be punctual. The only exception is a casual come-and-go cocktail party.
Arriving more than 15 minutes late to a dinner is rude.
5 - Practice Hygiene Privately
By all means, gloss, coif, and clean, but maintain yourself in private.
6 - Introduce Yourself
This has more points if you’re being formal, but in short—don’t be shy.
Introduce yourself and whoever you are with to those in your immediate viisciinity.
7 - Respond
When asked a question, respond in a timely and decisive way. Maybe is not a response.
8 - Practice Volume Control & Know When to Exit
Whether using your cell phone, issuing a complaint, or correcting a child,
public volume control is not only common courtesy and good manners
but is an indicator of your self-awareness and social intelligence.
9 - Emote Wisely
Especially on social media, curb your negative emotions.
This tip isn’t about hiding or being inauthentic. It’s about knowing the reach and impact of your words and choosing wisely.
10 - Understand and Practice Self-Awareness
If you want others to respond positively to you, this is imperative. Know thyself.
Self-awareness is a skill that takes honing. Practice if you want to improve.
